ECP suspends Local Govt elections in Quetta
In compliance with an order of the Federal Constitutional Court, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday suspended local government election proceedings in Quetta district of Balochistan which were scheduled to be held on December 28, 2025.
According to an official notification issued by the ECP, the decision follows the court’s order dated December 24, 2025, in Constitutional Petition (C.P.L.A No. 153/2025), titled Qadir Shah s/o Suliman Shah versus Election Commission of Pakistan.
The notification stated that election proceedings earlier notified on November 3, 2025, relating to the conduct of local government elections in Quetta district, have been suspended with immediate effect until further orders. The ECP said the suspension will remain in force until the competent authority issues further directions.
