Calls for making ear care a reality!
An awareness seminar on World Hearing Day was held at the Fatima Jinnah Medical University, said a press release on Tuesday.
The event was held in collaboration with the Department of ENT and the Society for Audiological & Developmental Ailments (SADA). Vice Chancellor FJMU Prof Dr Khalid Masood Gondal graced the occasion as chief guest.
This year's theme is ‘Empower yourself to make ear and hearing care a reality for all’.
Former Head of Department ENT Department, Prof Dr Manzoor Ahmad Shaheen, President of SADA D. Afzal Alam, (CEO of SADA) Inam Ul Haq Raja and DIG Gazi Salahuddin were the special guests.
Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal delivered a welcome address at the seminar, emphasized the significance of the seminar, and appreciated the ENT department's efforts. He stressed that serving the ailing humanity is a top priority. He congratulated Head of Paediatrics Department Prof. Naveed Akbar Hotiana, Head of ENT Department Prof. Mirza Muhammad Sarwar and all faculty members, for their exceptional organization of the seminar.
In the seminar, lectures on various topics were delivered on the International Hearing Day. Speakers highlighted the rising cases of hearing-related diseases and deafness. Noise was identified as the main reason behind hearing problems. They emphasized the importance of limiting noise exposure, taking precautions, and making newborn screening mandatory. Speakers also advised to avoid excessive noise exposure, using self-cleaning methods for ears and hands-free devices whenever possible.
Principal Prof Abdul Hamid expressed gratitude to the distinguished guests. He emphasized the importance of timely diagnosis and treatment, stating that it significantly benefits patient outcomes.
Children with hearing impairments from various schools attended the seminar and displayed impressive tableaux, captivating the audience with their talents and enthusiasm.
The seminar concluded with the presentation of honorary shields to distinguished guests and an awareness walk, to promote hearing health and raise awareness about deafness and hearing-related issues.
