Karachi court summons women’s jail superintendent over plea seeking Pinky’s appearance via video link

A judicial magistrate in Karachi courts on Monday summoned the superintendent of the women’s jail after a request was filed seeking the appearance of alleged drug dealer Anmol alias Pinky through video link during court proceedings, 24NewsHD TV reported on Monday.

Judicial Magistrate South Sitara directed the jail superintendent to appear before the court on June 1 and explain why the application for a virtual appearance had been submitted.

“The trial has not yet started, so why was there a need for this request?” the court remarked during the hearing.

According to the application, the superintendent of the women’s jail sought permission for Anmol alias Pinky to attend proceedings through video link instead of being brought physically to court.

The request stated that law and order conditions at the court premises could deteriorate during the suspect’s appearance at the City Courts complex.

The court has sought a detailed explanation from prison authorities before deciding on the matter.
