August 26, 2022 08:46 PM

Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Lahore has announced establishing a relief fund for the assistance of flood-affected people, appealing to the citizens, pharmaceutical companies, doctor’s community, and philanthropists, to generously donate to it.

Expressing its concern over widespread floods and torrential rains that have claimed at least 3000 precious lives and destroyed infrastructure worth over 42 billion dollars in the country, the PMA Lahore has decided to come forward with all available resources to help out their millions of brethren who are stranded grieved and homeless.

These views were expressed by PMA Lahore office bears while addressing a press conference held here on Friday. They mourned that the recent floods have wiped out thousands of villages and towns. Dams, roads, and bridges have been destroyed, railway tracks have been affected and millions of people have been displaced.

They said while considering it a national and religious duty to help out flood victims in this difficult hour, PMA in its emergent meeting has decided to provide food, healthcare facilities, and other required relief items to the people in flood-hit areas. A committee under the chair Dr Azeem Uddin Zahid has been formed to start relief activities for natural disasters. The following further decisions are taken in the meeting.

The meeting paid rich tribute to the people who sacrificed their lives during serving in the flood-affected areas. It also lauded the services of people who are working day and night for humanity.  The meeting asked the concerned authorities to shift all victims to safe places where they will be fully cared for.

The meeting decided to establish a camp at the PMA Lahore office, 66 Ferozepur Road, Lahore where necessary food items, groceries, and medicines will be received. Many camps will also be set up in the public hospitals for the collection of relief items.

People can deposit their donations in PMA's UBL Account No. 0559-012-3495-8 to help the flood victims.
