The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chief said on Thursday the corruption watchdog would proceed on the cases involving private housing societies and cooperative societies as per law.

Speaking at a meeting, Justice (R) Javed Iqbal said that government employees and pensioners were deprived of their lifetime savings by these private housing societies. He said that all regulators should take action against the fraudulent and unregistered housing societies. He said that government authorities should check if a private housing society has obtained a no-objection certificate or not and whether it has got its out plan approved by the government or not.

Justice Javed said the NAB recovered the looted money from Tasawwur Gilani, popularly known as Double Shah, and made him “Single Shah” again. He said this amount was distributed to people who had lost their money to Double Shah. He said that Gilani owed people Rs1.9 billion and the NAB has recovered Rs1.2 billion from him so far and distributed it to affected people.
