First fraud case registered ahead of Gilgit-Baltistan general polls 2026

Gilgit-Baltistan police have registered the first known case of alleged election-related fraud ahead of the 2026 general elections after authorities uncovered suspected fake ballot papers and forged official stamps in the Diamer Tangir area, 24NewsHD TV reported on Tuesday.  

According to police officials, an FIR has been registered against Khush Muhammad, the nephew of former Gilgit-Baltistan chief minister Gulbar Khan, over allegations of preparing counterfeit election-related material.

The police launched an action after the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) received information regarding the alleged use of counterfeit government seals and documents.

Investigators said the suspect allegedly prepared ballot papers carrying fake official stamps in an attempt to misuse them during the election process.

Law enforcement authorities said further investigation into the case was underway to determine whether additional suspects or networks were involved in the alleged forgery operation.

Police officials said strict legal action would be taken against anyone found involved in manipulating the electoral process.

“No one is above the law, and those involved in forgery and fake documentation will face action under the law,” police said.
