Former female TV anchor, family injured in Karachi knife attack

A former television anchor, her husband and their daughter were injured on Wednesday after being attacked with a knife by her son in their home in Karachi, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

According to the report, the incident occurred at a residence near the Vilayat Ali Shah Mazar in Gohar Green City, Malir, where the suspect allegedly stabbed the three family members while they were asleep.

Rescue officials confirmed that all the victims are out of danger and were treated at Jinnah Hospital.

An officer in charge of a police station in the Malir area confirmed to the media that the suspect, who was arrested shortly after the incident, appeared to be mentally unstable and claimed that his family had “performed black magic” on him.

The SHO said the injured woman, named Shamim, worked as a TV anchor for a private channel in 2021, while her husband, Pervaiz, is an advocate. Their daughter was identified as Fasahat Fatima, the wife of Kashif.

The SHO stated that initial findings indicate the attack was carried out without warning as the family slept, and further investigation is ongoing.

In a separate incident in Jamshed Quarters, the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Karachi police arrested four suspected members of an extortion gang after what police described as an encounter.

The suspects, said to be associated with the Ahmed Ali Magsi group, had allegedly opened fire on a car showroom.

One accomplice was injured in the shootout, while two others managed to escape after firing at police.

Officers recovered weapons, mobile phones and two motorcycles from the arrested suspects.

According to SIU officials, the group had demanded Rs5 million in extortion from the showroom owner on 18 November.
