Imran Khan’s long march, solar eclipse and endless rumours

October 26, 2022 06:03 PM

As soon as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan announced the long march towards Islamabad on Friday, the rumors mills churning out that the PTI chief was waiting for the solar eclipse to announce the long march date—October 28th Friday from Liberty Roundabout Lahore.

Pertinent to note that year’s second and last solar eclipse was "partially visible" in Pakistan on Tuesday. The eclipse begins at 13:58 PST and ends at 18:02 PST with the greatest eclipse occurring at 16:00 PST.

It has not been verified whether Khan really waited for the solar eclipse to make the announcement but it coincided with the eclipse. On the other hand, the visibly agitated PTI Chairman was lingering on the long march date since May 25 this year, when he called off the march after reaching Islamabad.

There are rumours that Imran Khan after just after the completion of the solar eclipse, announced the date of the long march.

Interestingly, last year when Imran Khan was prime minister and he was delaying the notification of the appointment of the new Director General ISI, the rumours were also in the air then that Khan was waiting for a moon eclipse in November 2021.

Senior journalist Syed Talat Hussain in his Vlog responding to the question that Khan was only delaying the notification for some moon eclipse, said that people must not listen to such rumours.

He said he had nothing to add to such questions but he could not rule out any superstitiousness for ‘institutional inputs’.

Talat Hussain said that these were the endless rumours that people depend on the moon or sun eclipse for such important appointments and decisions.

The events exactly occurred in that symmetry, the notification was issued on October 16 and the DG ISI assumed charge on November 20th— a day after the moon eclipse on Nov 19.
