Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi saved his seat by a cunning move to continue the Punjab Assembly (PA) session despite completing its 100 days of sitting in a parliamentary year.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, Parvez Elahi was willing to continue the PA session just to avoid any no-confidence motion or any other new agenda for the next meeting of the assembly.
The channel report said that the continuation of the current assembly session for a long time is a tricky move as the Punjab governor couldn’t ask the CM to take a vote of confidence during the continuing session technically.
Anyhow, due to a historically long session of the PA, the legislators have made huge money in the terms of salaries, allowances and other benefits.
It is worth mentioning that Punjab CM Parvez Elahi's government is standing on the support of only eight votes in the House.
Pertinent to mention here that the PA session was started on 15th June this year and still continuing on the agenda of the government of Ch Parvez Elahi.
The report said that each member of the assembly receives a salary of Rs2,40,000 per month and also gets Rs6,000 per day for travelling allowance and other financial benefits in the case of the session.
The report also said that more than Rs one billion expenses have been spent in the 100 days session of the Punjab Assembly.
