Punjab govt in action against smog

The Punjab government will take indiscriminate action against smog-emitting factories and industrial units, Punjab Industries Minister SM Tanveer said on Monday.

According to 24Newshd TV channel, the Punjab government is active under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi to protect the environment.

It is also the responsibility of industries to prevent the spread of environmental pollution, he stressed adding that violations of environmental laws will cost them dearly.

The minister said while presiding over a meeting on measures to cope with the challenge of smog.

Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, Minister Bilal Afzal, Secretary of the Environment Protection Department, DG and other officials concerned attended the meeting.

Factories closed due to smog will be unsealed only after the process is completed, said Minister Bilal Afzal.

A review committee will be formed to look into the de-sealing, he said. Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman said the use of non-standard fuel will not be allowed under any circumstances.
