Kh Asif hails 'Hybrid Partnership' as successful governing system

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has declared that Pakistan’s hybrid governance model is propelling the country forward, strengthening its diplomatic standing, defence capabilities, and global position, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Friday.

In a statement on the social media platform X, Kh Asif said that the hybrid system had enabled Pakistan to prevail in the recent military confrontation imposed by India.

He mentioned that this model has also paved the way for a defence agreement with Saudi Arabia. He further credited the model for achieving “unprecedented progress” in relations with the United States (US).

“Alhamdulillah, 2025 is a year full of successes, and the hybrid system’s partnership is moving forward with remarkable achievements,” Asif wrote in his post.

Earlier this year, in an interview with Arab News, Kh Asif acknowledged the military’s elevated role in national affairs after the standoff with India, describing the system as effective in fostering coordination and stability, even if it was “not an ideal democratic government”.

Kh Asif highlighted platforms such as the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), where civilian and military leadership jointly shape policy, ensuring what he called “co-ownership” of power.

He maintained that decisions in Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s government are made through consensus with the military establishment and argued that Pakistan’s democratic journey might have been smoother if such a model had been adopted decades earlier.

The defence minister went on to assert that for the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Sharif family, compromise with the military is “the only realistic option” to ensure political and national stability.
