PM Shehbaz to address UN General Assembly today

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to address the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) today, where he will present the case of the people of Gaza and Indian-occupied Kashmir before the international community, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Friday.

According to official briefings, the prime minister’s speech will also highlight regional security challenges, terrorism, and the rising tide of Islamophobia.

Diplomatic sources confirmed that Arab and Muslim countries have collectively decided to boycott Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address.

During his speech, Islamic states' delegates will walk out of the UN General Assembly hall in protest but will return in full attendance for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s address.

The high-profile address comes a day after Shehbaz Sharif, accompanied by Field Marshal Asim Munir, held an 80-minute-long important meeting with US President Donald Trump in the Oval Office, also attended by Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

While the White House issued no official statement, Pakistani government sources described the discussions as “constructive and forward-looking”, covering bilateral ties, defence cooperation, economic collaboration, and regional developments.

Prime Minister Shehbaz thanked President Trump for acknowledging Pakistan’s counter-terrorism role and emphasised the need for deeper cooperation in security and intelligence. He also extended a formal invitation for the US president to visit Pakistan at his convenience.

Officials in Islamabad interpret the engagement as a sign of renewed momentum in US-Pakistan relations, coinciding with shifting regional alignments.
