OIC holds 23rd Extraordinary Session of Council of Foreign Ministers in Jeddah 

The headquarters of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jeddah witnessed the commencement of the 23rd Extraordinary Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers on Thursday, amid high-level diplomatic presence and extensive media coverage. 

The meeting’s agenda focuses on two key issues: the election of a new Secretary-General and discussions on the rapidly evolving situation in the occupied Palestinian territories. 

Addressing the inaugural session, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan stressed on Thursday the “urgent need” for greater Islamic cooperation and solidarity, while underscoring the importance of serious reforms within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in the coming period.

The OIC is the world’s second-largest intergovernmental organization after the United Nations. It has 57 member states and describes itself as the collective voice of the Muslim world.

Saudi Arabia strongly condemned Israel’s announcement of plans to establish new settlement units. Riyadh also rejected any attempts to impose a temporal or spatial division of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, according to the Saudi foreign minister. Prince Faisal further stressed the need to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches Gaza without obstruction.
