Punjab govt orders return of additional official vehicles from depts

Launching a big crackdown on the use of official vehicles, the Punjab government on Tuesday ordered all departments to return additional vehicles within two weeks, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Sources told the 24News TV channel that the departments would now retain only those vehicles which had been allowed to them.

Sources added that the departments had been warned that in case they did not return these vehicles, these would be confiscated.

Furthermore, they informed, it had been made mandatory for the officers to keep log books with them, and in the event of entry of incorrect data in it, the facility of keeping the vehicle would be withdrawn and recovery would be made.

Sources said it had also been made obligatory on the officials to seek permission from their departmental heads for the use of these vehicles in an emergency.

Likewise, the officers would have to seek approval from the finance department for purchasing these vehicles.

The provincial government, sources informed, had also decided to prefer the purchase of electric and hybrid vehicles.
