Two labourers die as fire sweeps sugar mill in Kot Addu

Two labourers lost their lives, and one received serious burn wounds after a fire broke out at a sugar mill in Kot Addu, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.

The private sugar mill is located in the Sanawan area of Kot Addu.

According to details, the fire started inside the sugar mill due to a short circuit, trapping the workers present at the site.

Both of the deceased workers died instantly. The injured worker was rescued and rushed to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital by Rescue 1122 teams.

The rescue teams reached the site immediately after receiving the emergency call. They controlled the fire and ensured that the injured worker received urgent medical care.

Police have registered a case against the management of the private sugar mills in Sanawan Police Station. They are accused of negligence and failing to ensure safety measures for the workers.

The FIR stated that the factory management established an ordinary residential camp without basic facilities in which 80 labourers were present.

The FIR further stated that the fire erupted due to the poor condition of the electricity wires, and no firefighting equipment was available in the factory.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing. Every angle of the incident is being examined, and action will be taken against those found responsible.

Officials highlighted that safety protocols in industrial workplaces are crucial. They emphasized that accidents like this could be prevented with proper fire safety systems, regular inspections, and staff training.

The management of the mill has not yet stated the incident. Locals expressed concern over the working conditions and the lack of safety measures at the factory.
