The Peshawar High Court has suspended Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Shah Farman’s order regarding the removal of Gomal University’s vice chancellor, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Justice Roohul Amin and Justice Atiq Shah of the PHC heard the petition on Thursday.
The court suspended Governor Farman’s removal order of Gomal University Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Iftikhar Ahmed till the next hearing.
Reportedly, Governor Farman ordered the removal of Gomal University Vice Chancellor Dr Iftikhar on Wednesday following a clash erupted over the upgrading of the agricultural faculty of the Gomal University to the status of the university.
The VC had objected to this decision and wrote a letter to Prime Minister Imran Khan requesting him to intervene in the matter. The HEC objected to his endeavor to write a letter to the PM and asked him to provide an explanation within 10 days. The VC submitted his response along with his resignation letter. However, his resignation was not accepted by the governor. But a few days later, the governor had sent Dr Iftikhar on 90 days forced leave. Yesterday, the governor removed him through a notification without giving any reasons.
Vice Chancellor Dr Iftikhar submitted a writ petition to the Peshawar high court challenging the governor’s order of his removal.
