Ch Shujaat supports 18th Amendment review plan
Pakistan Muslim League-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has announced supporting the government bid to review the 18th Amendment.
“The PML-Q will stand by the PTI in its bid to review the 18th Amendment, which according to him, inflicted serious damage on education quality,” Ch Shujaat said.
He said: “Politicians are deliberating upon the 18th Amendment without reading it. In the constitution of any state in the world, uniform education system is guaranteed by the centre but the 18th Amendment made it a subject of the provincial government.”
Ch Shujaat said he would take up the matter with all parties so that such a flawed amendment could be undone.
The PML-Q chief’s remarks came a day after Bilawal Bhutto, the chairman of PPP that passed the amendment in its rule, launched a campaign to defend change.
Bilawal phoned JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on the issue after Planning and Development Minister Asad Umer reiterated his party resolve to change the 18th Amendment.
Claiming to have found flaws in the amendment, Asad Umar said: “The 18th Amendment was a step in the right direction, but the process is incomplete. It gave powers to provincial governments, but the local governments are still powerless.”
