Squash legend Jahangir Khan urges India to keep politics out of sports

Squash legend Jahangir Khan has urged India government to separate politics from sports, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday. 

In a candid message to India, the former world champion emphasized that sportsmen serve as ambassadors of peace and goodwill between nations. 

Jahangir expressed disappointment over reports that Indian authorities had repeatedly denied visas to Pakistani players.

He added, "It is wrong for India to bring politics into sports. 

He stressed that in today's world, battles should be fought on playing fields, not through wars.

Commenting on the growing tensions, he said, "I often hear that India refuses visas to Pakistani athletes. 

This is not a healthy sign. 

Every player, including me, has fans across the border in India. Sports can build bridges, not barriers."

The squash legend reaffirmed his willingness to travel to India if invited to play or attend events, expressing hope that such gestures could open a pathway toward improving bilateral relations. 

"Whenever I am invited to India for a sporting event, I will surely go. Who knows, perhaps my visit might help foster better understanding between the two countries," he remarked optimistically.

"Every player is a representative of their country. Our job is to promote peace and mutual respect through sportsmanship."

Jahangir Khan, who enjoys immense respect and a dedicated fan base in India, lamented the recent trend of politicizing sporting ties, warning that denying visas to athletes hampers not only sports but also people-to-people relations.
