Virat Kohli terms Babar Azam ‘best batter in all formats’

August 28, 2022 12:28 PM

Indian batting legend Virat Kohli termed Pakistani star batsman and skipper Babar Azam as ‘the best batter across all formats’. Prior to the much anticipated matchup between the two fierce rivals, Kohli spoke candidly about his relationship with Babar.

Babar has always regarded him with "respect and compassion," according to Kohli, who claimed he first met him during the 2019 World Cup, and that has not changed despite Babar's rise in stardom. "Presently Babar is the top batter in the world across formats," says Kohli.

Babar and Kohli met first in 2019 World Cup following the Manchester match.

In an interview, Kohli stated, "Imad is someone I've known when we were both playing Under-19 cricket against one another. Imad said Babar wanted to talk.”

We had seating together and discussed the game. Despite the fact that he is currently likely the best batsman in the world across all forms because of his continued strong play, the former India captain remarked, "I observed a lot of love and respect from him and that hasn't changed."

Kohli said that Babar has an incredible talent, as he has always liked watching him play.

He also believes, Babar is performing now and growing into his own, but he has not noticed a difference in Babar’s attitude or demeanor toward him, which is a great indication of someone who is strongly rooted in their upbringing.

“His cricketing fundamentals are strong. Therefore, these types of players and characters have a big impact and inspire a lot of people. And I can also see it occurring with him," he added.
