Flour prices skyrocket in Karachi
Flour prices have skyrocketed in Karachi as the price per kg has been increased by Rs 20, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.
According to wholesale flour dealers, the price per kg of flour has increased by Rs 20 to Rs 30. The price per kg of fine flour in the wholesale market has reached Rs 95 and the price of 2.5 number flour has reached Rs 89 per kg.
Flour mill owners arbitrarily increased the prices of fine flour. The Commissioner Karachi had fixed the price of fine flour at Rs 78 and 2.5 number at Rs 66 per kg.
In retail, fine flour reached Rs 110 and 2.5 number flour at Rs 95 per kg. The price of milled flour was increased by Rs 30 per kg to Rs 120 per kg.
Abdul Rauf Chairman Wholesale Grocers Association said that the cost of grinding wheat in the mill and other expenses is Rs30 per kg. Flour Mill Association said the reason for the increase in wholesale flour prices is due to increase in wheat prices. Abdul Rauf Chairman Wholesale Grocers Association said the hoarding mafia has been hoarding wheat on a large scale.
Stockists have bought large quantities of wheat from farmers and stored it therefore there has been an artificial shortage of flour in the wholesale market.
