On Monday, the National Security Council, which met with Prime Minister Imran Khan in the chair, approved the country’s first-ever national security policy, 2022-2026.

PM Imran said that the defence of the country was linked to the defence of its citizens.

“Pakistan is fully capable of dealing with the internal as well as external threats to its security,” he said, adding that formulation and approval of the country’s first national security policy was no small feat.

He also praised the National Security Division and all the departments allied to it for making efforts for the formulation of the policy.

The prime minister called upon all the departments to adopt a cohesive strategy to ensure effective implementation of the policy.

Briefing the meeting on the salient features of the policy, Adviser on National Security Moeed Yusuf said it would centre around the financial security of the people of Pakistan.

“And the financial security of the citizens will ultimately guarantee them overall security,” Moeed emphasized.

He went on to add that under the policy weaker segments of the Pakistani society would be protected. “Besides that, the policy will also ensure the country’s honour and prestige in the comity of nations,” he explained.
