Cop, two accused killed in Karachi firing duel

A policeman embraced martyrdom and two armed accused were killed during an exchange of fire in Karachi, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.

The incident took place near Pakistan Bazaar at Liaquat Chowk in the megacity.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Tariq Elahi Mastoi, while speaking to the media, said that four policemen were patrolling on two motorcycles. They signalled the accused who were riding on motorcycles to stop, but instead they started firing on the police team.

SSP Tariq Elahi Mastoi said that during the exchange of fire, one policeman received critical injuries, but later he embraced martyrdom while being shifted to the hospital.

The SSP further revealed that during the retaliation firing by the police, both accused were killed.

The dead policeman was a resident of Gulshan-e-Bahar and performing his duty at Pakistan Bazar Police Station.

Inspector-General Sindh Javed Alam Odho summoned a detailed report from DIG West about the firing incident.

He also expressed his heartfelt grief and sorrow on the sad demise of the policeman. The IG Sindh lauded the bravery and professionalism shown by the martyred policeman.

In another incident, a bullet-riddled body was found near Gulbai-Lyari Expressway. The Rescue personnel shifted the dead body to Civil Hospital.

In another firing incident at Al Asif Square, one man who was later identified as Rab Nawaz lost his life.

Police said that they recovered a wallet and mobile phone of the deceased. Police further revealed that the incident occurred due to old enmity. The deceased was a resident of Qayyumabad. Further investigation was underway.
