All higher & secondary schools in Punjab will be solarised

The Department of School Education Punjab announced to shift all higher and secondary schools of the province to solar energy, reported 24NewsHd TV channel on Saturday.

Department of School Education also sought number of higher and secondary schools already converted to solar energy.

As many as 861 higher and secondary schools are operational in Punjab, 21 are located in Lahore, of which four are already shifted to solar energy.

In a notification, the Department of School Education sought complete data of schools that will be shifted on solar energy by June 30, 2025.

Sources said that some schools shifted to solar energy on a self-help basis.

The notification further said that strict action will be taken against the heads of those schools who fail to provide data.

Punjab Teachers Union (PTU) General Secretary Rana Liaquat Ali said that the government trying to convert schools to solar energy for the last five years, but due to a shortage of funds, some schools shifted to solar energy on self-help basis.

Rana Liaquat Ali said that some heads of schools purchased solar panels after collecting Rs15,000 from teachers.

He demanded that the government to provide free solar panels to all the schools in the province.
