AJK LB polls: Results pour in

The unofficial results of local government elections in AJK have started pouring in, 24NewsHD TV channel reported Sunday.

As per the schedule, the polling remained continued. A few incidents of clashes between rivals occurred while long queues of voters were seen throughout the day. A total of nine people sustained injuries in such incidents. A couple of reports of mismanagement also surfaced.

According to unofficial results of the UCs’polling in Neelam, the names of the winning UC candidate are Maulana Yahya Shah(PTI),  Sardar Tahir (PTI), Nisar Khan (PTI), Raja Iftikhar Khan (PTI), Ghulam Mujtaba Mughal (PTI), Malik Sarwar (PTI), Abdul Hameed Awan (PTI), Abdul Qavi (PML-N), Mian Abdul Quddus (PML-N), Khawaja Ghulam Ahmed (PML-N), Imtiaz Qureshi (PPP), Liaquat Khan(PPP), Mian Binyamin (PPP) Basharat Swati (Independent) and Syed Fayyaz Shah (Independent).

As per unofficial results received from Jhelum Valley/Hattian Bala District, Khawaja Nasiruddin of PPP won Ward No1, Sheikh Mumtaz Hussain of PTI Ward No 2 and PML-N’s Sajawal Khan Ward Number 3. Faisal Javed of Tehreek-e-Insaaf is successful in Goharabad UC, Liaquat Hussain Awan of PML-N in Nowgran Ward, Sheikh Sadiq in Chakothi, Tehreek-e-Insaaf's Tayyab Mantood Kayani in Gujjar Bandi Union Council and Raja Pervaiz Iqbal of PPP in Chikar UC.

According to a spokesperson for the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), as many as 4,500 personnel of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) police are performing security duty in Muzaffarabad division. A total of 2,716 candidates were in the field in Muzaffarabad division, the ECP secretary said, adding that 31 women candidates are also there in the field to contest elections. As many as 411,072 voters are in the Muzaffarabad district, 154,832 in Jhelum Valley and 129,145 voters in Neelum Valley district.

A total of 900 independent candidates are also there in the field to try their luck in the local bodies’ elections. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) issued tickets to 575 candidates and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) fielded 545 candidates and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) gave tickets to 465 candidates. 

According to the unofficial results, PML-N is on top with 12 seats in the 36 wards of Muzaffarabad. Overall, the polling process was peaceful in the area. the Chief Election Commissioner has praised the people for exercising their right to vote peacefully
