The Punjab government has decided to impose a complete lockdown in cities that are witnessing a high positivity ratio in the province before Eid, reported 24 News HD TV Channel.

The Punjab cabinet in its Thursday’s meeting decided to impose a complete lockdown in cities before Eid where the positivity ratio is higher than 20%. The cabinet expressed concern over the rising number of cases in the province and mulls to impose lockdown. 

The provincial government will seek approval from the National Command and Operation Centre in this regard. 

The cabinet presided over by Chief Minister Usman Buzdar expressed its concern that if corona continues to spread at this pace the situation in the hospitals would become dire and the provincial healthcare system would become stressed. 

The cabinet noted that police and local administration have failed to implement covid 19 specific restrictions as shopping centers are getting busier before the arrival of Eid. However, the situation has become a bit improved after the deployment of the army.

During the past 24 hours, Punjab witnessed 2,672 new cases, taking the tally to 298,818. As many as 103 people died of covid 19 bringing the number of fatalities to 8,327, according to Punjab Primary and Secondary Health Care Department. 

At least 242,068 patients had recovered from the disease, the department added.  

The Punjab cabinet has not decided to give raise in provincial government employees’ salaries, 

In the meeting, the Punjab finance ministry has ignored to give disparity allowance. The cabinet meeting condoned the disparity allowance in its agenda meant to deliberate on giving raise in the emoluments of government employees.
