Imran Khan, wife challenge Toshakhana-II sentences in Islamabad High Court

Former Prime Minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi have filed separate appeals in the Islamabad High Court challenging their convictions in the Toshakhana-II case, 24NewsHD TV reported on Monday.

In their appeals, they argued that the prosecution failed to prove the case against them.

They maintained that the Bulgarian gift items from Toshakhana were retained in accordance with the rules applicable to former leaders.

The appeals also claimed that Sohaib Abbasi was illegally made a “Sultani” witness, and the court relied on the testimony of a “compromised” witness, which, they argued, was inadmissible.

Further, they contended that the Special Central Court did not have jurisdiction over the case, and that the multiple sentences amounted to double punishment for the same offense.

They described the case as being politically motivated and instituted without proper investigation.

The appeals seek the Islamabad High Court to nullify the Toshakhana-II verdict against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.

The appeals have been assigned diary numbers 24560 and 24561, respectively.

Earlier, a Special Central Judge had sentenced both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi to 17 years in prison each, a decision now being challenged in the High Court.
