The Jamiat Ulema Islam (JUI) has refused to vote for joint candidates of allied parties in the election of prime minister, National Assembly speaker and president, sources said on Wednesday.
The leaders of coalition parties called upon the JUI chief to muster his support in the upcoming elections but the latter refused to do so, the sources said.
They cited Fazl as saying: “We will not be part of any voting process.”
Talking to the media after the meeting, Ayaz Sadiq said: “We are democratic people and we respect Maulana Fazlur Rehman."
He added: "Fazl has reservations which have been discussed. Our leaders will meet Fazlur Rehman in the House tomorrow.”
