Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Thursday visited Rawalpindi Ring Road and ordered to complete the project by December 2024, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif personally inspected the Rawalpindi Ring Road project at Tarahia.

Nespak, Project Management Unit (PMU) and Frontier Works Organization (FWO) authorities briefed Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on the progress of Rawalpindi Ring Road project.

It was briefed that Rawalpindi Ring Road project started in September 2023 and all construction will be completed by February 2025.

The structures on the way have been removed for the construction of the 38.3 kilometer long Rawalpindi Ring Road.

Removal of incoming utility services in the right of way is underway.

About 24 percent work on project has been completed.

Five interchanges, 11 overpasses, 2 rivers, 6 canals and 1 railway bridges, while 15 subways and 53 bridges will be constructed on the Rawalpindi Ring Road.

A rest area will also be constructed on the Rawalpindi Ring Road.

Ring road project is indispensable for ease of transportation of Rawalpindi people, said Maryam Nawaz.

She said the industrial zones to be built on the Rawalpindi Ring Road project will be a game changer for Rawalpindi and will provide employment to the local people.

Two years have been fixed for the completion of Rawalpindi Ring Road, every effort will be made to complete it before the deadline, Maryam Nawaz said.

She said the completion of the most important public welfare project should not be delayed.

The CM further said that the work on the ring road project is going on day and night and will be completed before the stipulated period.

In the Rawalpindi Ring Road project, construction quality will be ensured in every case, there will be no compromise on quality, said Maryam Nawaz.

She instructed that Rawalpindi Ring Road interchange should be named after the respective village.

Former Senator Pervez Rasheed, Members of Assembly Maryam Aurangzeb, Sania Ashiq, Chief Secretary Punjab, concerned secretaries, commissioner and other officials were also present on the occasion.

CM visits Doduchha Dam site

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif visited Dodochha Dam site during her visit of Rawalpindi and took detailed overview of the construction activities of the Dam site.

Frontier Works Organization (FWO) officials briefed Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Dodochha Dam.

It was briefed that the resumption of work on Dodochha Dam project has been started from November 2023.

The process of releasing water to the spillway for Dodochha Dam is in progress.

In the light of the court's decision, work is also underway on the revised PC-1 for the re-determination of the land value.

Work on site is progressing rapidly, financial progress is 40 percent and physical progress is 12 percent so far.

The dam is located at a distance of 25 km from Rawalpindi.

A total of 16,194 kanals and 14 marla land of Rawalpindi and Kalar Sydaan area were acquired for the construction of Dodochha Dam.

The height of the dam is 123 feet, length is 737 feet and catchment area is 129 square miles.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz set a deadline of November 2025 for the completion of Duduchha Dam.

Additional machinery and work force should be installed at Dodochha Dam site and work on different sections should be started, the CM instructed.

Pakistan is one of the countries that will suffer from severe water shortage in the coming days, Maryam Nawaz Sharif said.

She said rainwater should be saved from being wasted by building more dams.

She said Rawalpindi and other areas are facing severe shortage of water and Dodochha Dam will be able to meet the water requirement.

The situation worsens in summer, with shortfall reaching 60 mgd, the CM said.

The work on Dodochha Dam should be completed on an emergency basis to meet the shortage of water, Maryam Nawaz instructed.

This dam, built at a cost of 12 billion and will meet a large part of the water needs of Rawalpindi city after its completion, the CM said.

The dam will provide 35 million gallons of clean drinking water per day for the city of Rawalpindi, Maryam Nawaz said.

No one will be treated unfairly and the local population is being given the value of their land according to the current rate.
