Favourites appointed principals, heads of medical institutions 'in violation of rules'

The Specialized Healthcare Department has appointed 14 professors as principals and heads of medical institutions without following proper rules and procedures, reported 24NewsHD TV on Saturday.

The department held interviews without public advertisement and gave top posts to favorite professors.

According to the notification, Prof. Farooq Afzal has been appointed Principal of PGMI and General Hospital.

Prof. Tayyaba Wasim has become the Principal of Allama Iqbal Medical College.

Prof. Haroon Hameed is now the CEO of Mayo Hospital.

Prof. Saira Afzal has been appointed Dean of IPH.

Prof. Junaid Rashid is now the permanent Dean of the Children’s Hospital.

Similarly, Prof. Muhammad Akhtar has been posted as Principal of Sahiwal Medical College.

Prof. Asif Qureshi, former Principal of D.G. Khan Medical College, has been removed.

Prof. Bilal Saeed is now the new Principal of D.G. Khan Medical College.

Prof. Iftikhar Paras Shah has been appointed Executive Director of D.G. Khan Institute of Cardiology.

On the other hand, Prof. Tahir Siddique has been removed as Principal of Nawaz Sharif Medical College, Gujrat.

Prof. Rehman Gulzar has taken over as Principal of Nawaz Sharif Medical College, Gujrat.

Prof. Abdul Hameed Fatima is now Principal of Jinnah Medical College.

Prof. Ejaz Hussain Shah has been appointed Executive Director of Pak-Italian Burn Centre, Multan.

This move has raised concerns among stakeholders regarding transparency and merit in these appointments.
