Justin Bieber’s absence from church for 3 months sparks concerns

Pop superstar Justin Bieber has not attended Churchome, his longtime place of worship in Beverly Hills, for at least three months, fueling speculation of personal turmoil, fractured friendships, and growing distance from pastor Judah Smith, The Sun reports.

Bieber, 31, was once a regular at the nondenominational church alongside his wife, Hailey Bieber. But since March, the “Peaches” singer has been notably absent from in-person services, and now fans and insiders are questioning whether his relationship with Smith—and the church itself—is on rocky ground.

Adding fuel to the fire, Smith delivered an emotional and rambling sermon at the Saban Theater in Beverly Hills this week, where he appeared to address recent drama without naming names. The 46-year-old pastor teared up during the service, confessing that friends had been asking him if he was “okay” and hinting at personal and spiritual struggles.

Bieber’s growing distance from Churchome is also tied to a reported fallout with his best friend and Drew House co-founder Ryan Good.

Sources previously revealed to TMZ that the two haven’t spoken in a year after Good raised concerns about Churchome’s “cult-like culture.” Good eventually left the church, while Bieber appointed Smith to the Drew House board—a move that allegedly deepened the divide.

In a move that stunned fans, Bieber has since distanced himself from Drew House entirely, urging followers not to buy from the brand and stating:

“Drew House doesn’t represent me or my family or life. If you’re rocking with me—the human Justin Bieber—don’t waste your money on Drew House.”

During Wednesday’s Churchome gathering, Smith’s sermon shifted from jokes to tears.

“It’s always been about people, but we made it about popularity and appearances,” he said, referencing his own doubts and recent conversations that led him to question his well-being.

He also referenced his trip to Miami and repeated interactions with old friends who kept asking if he was alright. “So many people asked if I was okay, I started wondering—am I okay?”

Despite the raw and honest tone, the sermon left many attendees puzzled, especially as it lacked direct context about Bieber or the church’s recent controversies.

The church, previously accused of being "cult-like," has faced scrutiny in recent months. Smith even joked during a past sermon:“If we're a cult, we are the worst cult in the history of cults. We meet once a month, guys.”

This isn’t Bieber’s first spiritual controversy. In 2020, he cut ties with Hillsong Church and disgraced pastor Carl Lentz after a scandal involving infidelity and leadership failures rocked the megachurch.

Churchgoers interviewed after Wednesday’s service defended Smith, stating the pastor “comes from a good place” but admitted Churchome, like any other religious institution, has its flaws. “Every church has its issues. No church is perfect,” one member said.

In recent months, Bieber has alarmed fans with cryptic Instagram posts, emotional outbursts, and social media rants. One post showed a blurry black-and-white selfie, while others included leaked texts and references to “manipulation” and “flirting.”

His relationship with Hailey Bieber has also drawn speculation. The model was recently spotted without her wedding ring, sparking divorce rumors. Bieber, meanwhile, has publicly made troubling comments about her—at one point admitting during a fight he told her she’d never land a Vogue cover, only for her to later grace its front page.
