Coronavirus claims record 57 more lives in Pakistan

The last 24 hours were the worst for Pakistan since the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic as 57 people died in different parts of the country, raising the overall death toll to 1,317.
The latest figures released by the National Command and Control Centre shows 2,636 new cases were also reported during the same period after which the total number of infected people have reached 64,028 by Friday morning.
Most of these latest deaths were recorded in Punjab where 29 people died of the coronavirus, meaning a total of 410 patients have so far died in the province. Similarly, 16 more deaths were reported in Sindh, increasing the number to 396 in the province.
However, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa continues to have the most number of deaths with the figures currently standing at 432. It is followed by 43 in Balochistan, 22 in Islamabad, nine in Gilgit-Baltistan and five in Azad Kashmir.
As far as the region-wise distribution of reported cases is concerned, the figures for Sindh are 25309 followed by Punjab 22,964, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 8,842, Balochistan 3,928, Islamabad 2,100, Gilgit-Baltistan 658 and Azad Kashmir 227.
Meanwhile, 4,615 patients are currently hospitalised across the country with 496 of them in a critical condition.
There are 40,406 active coronavirus cases in the country as 22,305 patients have so far fully recovered from the infection.
On the other hand, 520,017 tests have been conducted so far with 11,931 of these carried out during the last 24 hours.
