Two more people lost their lives in Punjab due to dengue fever during the last 24 hours while at the same time 74 cases were detected, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.

According to the Department of Primary and Secondary Healthcare, Punjab, both the deceased belonged to Lahore, while out of 74 fresh cases, 60 were reported from the provincial capital alone.

The health department further said that four cases of the virus were reported from Rawalpindi, three from Kasur, two from Gujranwala, while one case each was reported from Faisalabad, Nankana Sahib, Attock, Hafizabad and Sialkot.  

Health Secretary Imran Iskandar Baloch has said that the department has accelerated the pace of its drive to eliminate dengue larvae. “So far, 25, 013 cases of the virus have been reported from across the province this dengue season,” he has said, adding 17,848 cases have been detected in Lahore alone.

Similarly, he has added, so far the disease has claimed the lives of 143 people in Punjab.

Baloch has further said that presently 824 dengue patients are admitted at the province’s government hospitals. “Of these, 589 are admitted at government hospitals in Lahore,” he has informed.

The health secretary has disclosed that 4, 934 beds have been reserved for the patients of the virus in the province’s government hospitals. “Out of total 228,284 indoor and 52,869 outdoor places the department teams had checked in Punjab during the last 24 hours, they managed to eliminate the larvae at 180 of them,” he has elaborated.  

Baloch has appealed to the people to remain careful because dengue fever is also a life-taking disease. “Just like you are taking precautionary measures to protect yourself from the coronavirus, similarly you must guard yourself against this virus as well,” he has advised.

“Keep your homes, offices and their surroundings neat and clean,” the health secretary has said and has appealed to the Ulema to inform the faithful of the consequences of contracting this disease.

36 dengue cases reported from KP:

Similarly, 36 cases of the virus were reported from different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) during the last 24 hours, hence taking the total number of infections reported from the province this dengue season to 10370.  

The KP health department has informed that the death toll from the disease stands at 10, while 33 patients of the virus are currently admitted at the province’s hospitals. “Of 36 people who were diagnosed with the virus in the last 24 hours, 24 were from Peshawar; hence taking the total number of cases reported from the provincial capital this year to 5547,” the department has disclosed.
