Independent group’s Afridi wins SCBA polls

Abdul Latif Afridi of the Independent group was elected Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President for the year 2020-21 on Thursday.
As per unofficial results, Afridi secured 1,236 votes against 968 bagged by his rival Abdul Sattar of the Professional group. Both the candidates for the presidential slot were from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since the top slot this year was reserved for KP as per rotation policy.
Polling was held in peaceful manner across the country. These elections are of even more significance given the prevailing political situation in the country as the opposition parties, including PML-N and PPP, have backed Afridi, a respected and seasoned lawyer nominated by the Independent Lawyers Group, commonly known by the name of Asma Jahangir Group.
The polling started at 8.00 am and continued till 5pm with an hour break from 1.00 pm to 2.00 pm.
Former chief justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, former president SCBA Hamid Khan, former president Lahore Bar Association Mansoor Afridi and others cast their vote in Lahore.
