Govt again increases petrol, diesel prices 

The Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division) has announced an increase in petroleum product prices, making petrol and diesel significantly more expensive from May 1, 2026.

According to an official press release, the price of petrol (Motor Spirit) has been increased by Rs 6.51 per litre, taking the new rate to Rs 399.86 per litre, up from Rs 393.35.

Meanwhile, the price of High-Speed Diesel (HSD) has witnessed a sharper hike of Rs 19.39 per litre. The new diesel price has been set at Rs 399.58 per litre, compared to the previous rate of Rs 380.19.

The revised prices will come into effect from May 1, reflecting adjustments in global oil markets and other fiscal considerations.

The increase in diesel prices, in particular, is expected to have a broader impact on transportation and agricultural costs, as the fuel is widely used in heavy vehicles and farming machinery.
