Judicial Magistrate in Model Town Kacheri of Lahore discharged students of a private university from a case of making trouble and ordered their release, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
Haris Ahmed, Zubair Siddiqui, Sanaullah and Ali Ashraf have been released forthwith from the court.
The police presented them in the court on completion of their remand where the judicial magistrate heard the case. They were accused of vandalizing the university amid a protest the other day. However, the students denied the allegations and charges against them. “Police arrested us unfairly,” the students said.
They reiterated their demand for conducting online papers instead of on-campus exams and argued the university should follow its own pattern, when classes were conducted online then papers must be held online too.
It is pertinent to note that University of Central Punjab students staged a protest outside the varsity but the protest turned violent as some ‘unidentified elements’ attacked the university.
Police arrested more than 35 students and then arrested four students separately.
The four students which were released now maintained, “We were not involved in any vandalism but were doing peaceful protest. We were arrested from our houses.”
