The National Command Operation Center (NCOC) has recommended a two-month delay in Azad Kashmir elections in a bid to stem the spread covid as, reported 24News HD TV Channel.
The NCOC wrote a letter to the AJK Election Commission chief recommending a two-month delay in the election. The letter said the election could cause a spread of coronavirus cases.
NCOC said that only a million populations could be vaccinated by year-end. It said that the spread rate of coronavirus cases was already high in Azad Kashmir so the election in July could spread up the cases. It proposed a delay of two months so the maximum population could be vaccinated.
A couple of days ago, Azad Jammu Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider said that just like by-polls held in Pakistan despite the pandemic, elections in Azad Kashmir should also be conducted and cannot be postponed. Addressing a press conference in Muzaffarabad, the AJK prime minister said that Pakistan and India must not violate the 1957 resolution on the Kashmir issue.
