Shashi Tharoor trying to belittle Trump’s mediation role during Pak-India tension: Defence experts
India has started rejecting US President Donald Trump’s mediation between Pakistan and India after Pakistan shoot downed 6 Indian jets, reported 24NewsHDTV Channel.
Shashi Tharoor, leader of the Indian opposition party Congress, has categorically rejected Trump's mediation role in recent statements. He claimed India had never agreed to any talks with Pakistan through Trump's mediation. Shashi Tharoor further claimed that Trump's mediation was not actually mediation and US President only played the role of messaging and dialogue, it was not mediation.
Shashi Tharoor admitted that, "We made several phone calls to the US, but it was not mediation". He opined that Donald Trump does not have the qualities of a president.
Indian leaders was constantly complaining that "We (India) never recognized the US and Trump as mediators”.
During Pak-Indian war, India had sought the help of the US for a ceasefire to hide its helplessness but later India claimed that the US president cannot be a claimant to mediation.
According to defence analysts Shashi Tharoor's statement is based on hypocrisy as it is a fact that India itself requested the US to play a mediating role.
The expert opine that BJP led government was using the murder case of Shashi Tharoor's wife as blackmailing resultantly Shashi Tharoor is creating a specific narrative at the global level at the behest of the Modi government.
