COMSTECH Coordinator General and  Malaysian Deputy PM to deepen bilateral scientific cooperation

H.E. Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General  OIC-COMSTECH, held a high-level meeting with YAB Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah Haji Yusof, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in science, technology, and innovation between COMSTECH and Malaysia.
The meeting, described as “warm and forward-looking” by officials, centred on expanding collaborative programmes in key developmental sectors. 

Both sides expressed strong commitment to enhancing Halal Research and Training, particularly in areas relating to global halal standards, certification, and technological innovation to support the rapidly growing halal industry.

Dr. Choudhary and the Deputy Prime Minister also discussed broad-based capacity-building initiatives in the healthcare sector, with emphasis on advanced training, technology transfer, and institutional linkages among OIC Member States. Malaysia’s well-established medical and biotechnology infrastructure, officials noted, places it in a unique position to support regional skill development.
Climate-focused engagements also featured prominently in the conversation.

 The two leaders exchanged views on bolstering Climate Resilience and Sustainability programmes, underscoring the urgent need for collective scientific action to address environmental challenges confronting many OIC countries.
The Deputy Prime Minister lauded COMSTECH’s efforts in promoting scientific cooperation across the Muslim world and reaffirmed Malaysia’s readiness to deepen strategic engagement. Dr. Iqbal highlighted Malaysia’s leadership in innovation and its continued role as a key partner in COMSTECH’s mission to empower OIC Member States through science and technology.
The meeting concluded with both sides agreeing to accelerate joint initiatives and explore new avenues of partnership in pursuit of sustainable development and shared prosperity.
