The federal government is considering replacing the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor, 24NewsHD TV reported on Sunday.

According to sources, six prominent names are under review for the top constitutional post, including three political figures and three retired senior military officers.

From the civilian side, Awami National Party (ANP) leader Ameer Haider Khan Hoti, Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) chairman Aftab Ahmad Sherpao, and former defence minister Pervez Khattak have emerged as key contenders.

Meanwhile, three retired lieutenant generals are also being seriously evaluated for the position.

These include Lt Gen (r) Khalid Rabbani, Lt Gen (r) Ghayur Mehmood, and Lt Gen (r) Tariq Khan, all of whom have held senior leadership roles during their military careers.

Sources added that consultations are ongoing, and a final decision regarding the new governor is expected soon.
