Tharis to get ‘ownership rights’ under Thar Land Grand Policy

What can be described as a landmark decision by the Sindh government after the creation of Pakistan, the provincial government has decided to formulate Thar Land Grand Policy under which residents of Tharparkar district as well as 27 villages of Umerkot will be given ownership of their lands, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
In this connection, Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah has approved the summary while an eight-member steering committee, consisting of present and former members of assemblies belonging to the desert region, has also been formed to formulate the policy.
Arbab Lutfullah Qasim, Siraj Soomro, Faqir Sher, Muhammad Bilalani, Rana Hamir Singh, Nazar Muhammad Laghari, Daust Meham Rahmu and former members and secretaries of Board of Revenue are among members of the committee.
The committee, besides formulating the policy, will also forward its recommendations to the Sindh CM after whose approval draft of the policy will be submitted to the Sindh Assembly (SA) Standing Committee on Board of Revenue.
And after vetting by the standing committee, the bill will be tabled in the provincial assembly session.
And after the assembly’s nod, the bill will become an Act.
