MQM-P writes letter to CJP, urges suo motu on LB polls

Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), in a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Umar Ata Bandial, has urged the top judge of the country to take a suo motu notice of the irregularities committed in holding local government elections in urban areas of Sindh province, reported 24News HD TV channel on Saturday.

In the letter to CJP, MQM-P Convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said elections in Sindh urban areas were held in an unlawful and unconstitutional manner. A copy of the letter has also been sent to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva. 

He said an open violation of 22nd constitutional amendment was committed in holding local body elections. Siddiqui said notification for schedule of elections was issued even when the quorum of the ECP was not complete. 

He said international laws were also ignored in this regard. 

Siddiqui said holding elections on controversial delimitations was tantamount to usurping the rights of people living in Urban Sindh. 

He appealed to the apex court that a suo motu may be taken on LB elections in Sindh. The letter also include references from Geneva Convention. 

Copies of the letter have also been sent to all judges of the Supreme Court, Chief Election Commissioner, all provincial elections commissioners, President, Prime Minister, Sindh Chief Minister, Governor Sindh, chief secretary, chairman Human Rights Commission of Pakistan and chairman FAFEN.
