According to the police, on June 27, the Motorway Police found a mutilated body of an unknown woman with severe head injuries from the Indus Highway in the limits of Police Station Chichar. The Motorway Police referred the matter to the Police Station Chichar, where the deceased was identified as Waziran Chichar, a resident of nearby Wadda Chichar village.

Police immediately contacted the husband of the deceased Ali Bux Chichar and father Gul Muhammad Chichar and sent the body to Syed Abdullah Shah Medical Institute, Sehwan for postmortem.

Surprisingly, the relatives of the deceased woman, including her father and husband, initially avoided the police investigation and registration of case and wanted that a road accident be declared the cause of death.

Later, both the father and husband alleged each other of killing the woman. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jamshoro Amjad Ali Sheikh took notice and directed registration of case under the murder charge lodged on the complaint of deceased’s father Gul Muhammad.

The police arrested Ali Bux and his brother Kareem Bux and constituted a three-member joint investigation team (JIT) headed by DSP Farooq Lakhair to probe into the matter.

Police and medical officials revealed that the woman was stoned to death. Dr Moeen Siddiqi, head of Syed Abdullah Shah Medical Institute, informed that from the postmortem it was very clear that the death was caused by a heavy object, which hit the head of the deceased. He said torture marks were also found on the whole body.

In a tweet, posted by the Ayaz Palijo the father of Waziran can be seen crying at by the side of his daughter’s grave and begging for justice.

According to the locals, the girl was killed for ‘honour’. She succumbed to her wounds after being tortured savagely.

According to the police, the father of the girl initially reported Waziran had died in an accident. Later on, he went on to change his statement and testified she was killed by her in-laws. The father has nominated the husband and brother-in-law for the murder of his 24-year-old daughter.

In a statement given by Waziran’s husband, he claimed that her own family took her life. According to him, Waziran wanted to marry him which her family did not approve of. He also said her choice of marrying him took her life.

As record goes by, Sindh police had presented charge sheets in 649 such cases and the courts had awarded sentences to accused in only 19 of those cases. Accused in 136 cases have been acquitted and 494 cases are still pending trial.
