NEPRA says net metering policy maintained for existing solar consumers

National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced that net metering policy has been maintained for existing solar consumers. 

In this regard NEPRA issues notification amending solar policy. The amendments will be implemented from February 9, 2026. 

There will be no change in the contracts of existing solar net metering customers. The licenses of existing solar customers will remain valid for their term. 

According to the notification, the existing customers will be billed as per the previous contract procedures. If a customer changes the solar capacity, the previous rate will not be available. 

The notification said NEPRA had earlier scrapped the unit-for-unit system for net metering customers. NEPRA had earlier approved net billing instead of net metering for new and existing solar customers.
