Foreign airlines have “developed” a new method to earn profits without operating any flights to Pakistan, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Foreign airlines without seeking any prior permission sell the tickets of their scheduled flights to Pakistan and later cancel them, pocketing billions of rupees in the process, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.
Quoting sources, the TV channel reported that the airlines cancelled the flights on the pretext that Pakistanis were responsible for the third wave of the coronavirus pandemic.
Now the situation is that thousands of Pakistanis are stranded in foreign countries in spite of paying hefty amounts to the airlines for the tickets.
Around 36,000 Pakistanis are stuck at Doha in Qatar, while 12,000 stranded in Turkey are anxiously waiting to return to their homeland.
The sources told 24News TV channel that the government was contemplating directing the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to bring back the Pakistanis stranded in other countries, while the national flag carrier, on the other hand, had also hinted at increasing the number of flights from Doha and Dubai to several destinations in Pakistan besides arranging air buses for the purpose.
