Pakistan set to reduce GMT difference from 5.5 to 5 hours

An important legislative development has taken place regarding the difference between Pakistan Standard Time and international standard time, as the Standard Time (Interpretation and References) Amendment Bill 2025 has been sent to the President for assent, sources said, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.

According to sources, the bill has already been passed by both houses of Parliament. Following approval by the President, the new standard time will come into effect in Pakistan.

Under the proposed legislation, the time difference between Pakistan Standard Time and Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) will be reduced by half an hour.

The amendment bill proposes reducing the difference between Pakistan Standard Time and GMT from five and a half hours to five hours.

The bill was first passed by the National Assembly and subsequently approved by the Senate.

According to the statement of objects and reasons, the legislation seeks to amend the law relating to standard time that has been in force since 1943.
