Nobody can point fingers at Punjab govt projects, says minister

Senior Punjab Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said on Wednesday that nobody could question the transparency of ‘innumerable’ projects initiated by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz during the last two years, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Addressing a press conference in Lahore, she said when Maryam took over as the chief minister of the province, there was no system of cleanliness in villages. “But 130 million people are benefitting from the Suthra Punjab project, which is the world’s largest project,” she added.

The provincial government, she said, was going to enact laws to penalize those dumping garbage on streets and roads.

Marriyum said that traffic laws were made in the interest of people. “Throughout the world, fines are imposed on those violating traffic rules,” she said, adding that a ban had been imposed on handcuffing children. “But this thing should be borne in mind that accidents happen when kids are behind the wheels.”

The minister said that a crackdown had been launched in the province on narcotics dealers. “The chief minister is herself supervising the operation against such individuals,” she said, adding there was zero tolerance when it comes to drugs.

She informed that only recently 13 tonnes of narcotics had been seized. “The consignment was intended to be supplied to students in educational institutions,” Marriyum said, adding, “As many as 156 cases have been registered during the ongoing crackdown.”
