PML-N leader Nehal Hashmi, sons get interim bail

A local court in Karachi on Saturday granted interim bail to PML-N leader Nehal Hashmi and his two sons after being arrested for allegedly attacking and threatening officials at a police station, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Earlier, lawyers and policemen scuffled in the courtroom after the accused were presented before the judge. During this mayhem, the lawyers chanted slogans and even managed to push the police officials out of the courtroom.

On Friday night, a case was registered against Nehal and his sons, accusing them of trying to stop the officials at Saudabad Police Station – located in the Malir district of the city – from performing their duties and threatening to kill them.

The police arrested and put them in the lockup, saying that Nehal sons – Barrister Naseer and Ibrahim – had an argument with someone at a traffic signal on Friday evening.

According to the official version, the cops reached the scene and brought both parties to the police station. However, Hashmi, who later arrived at the premises, and his sons manhandled some policemen and tore their uniforms besides hurling threats at them.

In this connection, a video was shared on social media to justify the action taken by the police.

However, totally opposite story is being shared by Nehal and his supporters who say it happened as his wife, Nishat Fatima, was attacked by a policeman first, triggering the response. They added that the video was edited in a way to defend the police action.

It is worth noting that Nehal’s wife and daughter had reached the police station soon after hearing that her sons were at the police station and the PML-N leader arrived at the building later.
