Section 144 imposed in Rawalpindi ahead of planned PTI protests

The Rawalpindi district administration has imposed Section 144 from August 4 to August 10, effectively banning all processions, public gatherings, and rallies across the city amid security concerns, reported 24NewsHd TV channel Monday.

According to a notification issued by the Deputy Commissioner, the decision has been taken in anticipation of possible attempts by miscreants to damage public and private property during the volatile political climate.

The move comes as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) gears up for nationwide protests against the continued incarceration of its founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who has been jailed at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi for the past two years. The main protest demonstration is reportedly planned to be staged outside Adiala Jail, raising fears of unrest and confrontation.

Authorities say the enforcement of Section 144 is a preventive measure to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of citizens and property during the protest period.

Police and law enforcement agencies have been directed to strictly implement the ban, and legal action will be taken against anyone found violating the restrictions, officials added.
