Seema Ghazal shares candid views on polygamy
Veteran Pakistani writer Seema Ghazal has shared her views on polygamy.
The writer of drama serial Noor Bano, explained that many men fail to fulfil the rights of their wives when entering multiple marriages.
Seema referred to television host Iqrar Ul Hassan while discussing the subject and said that she disapproves of men who publicly celebrate having multiple wives.
According to Seema, men who marry more than once often compromise the rights of their first wives.
She questioned whether such relationships begin openly and quoted that they are developed without the knowledge of the existing spouse before later being formalized through marriage.
The interviewer responded by referring to Iqrar Ul Hassan's previous statements and shared that the television host had said his first wife was aware of his relationship and intention to marry again.
The interviewer also questioned why society considers multiple marriages controversial when Islamic teachings permit a man to marry up to four wives under certain conditions.
Rejecting the argument, Seema maintained that the issue is not simply whether multiple marriages are permissible but whether a husband can truly fulfil the rights of every wife.
She added that a husband's responsibilities extend far beyond providing financial support.
The De Ijazat Jo Tu writer concluded her point with that marriage also involves emotional care, respect and equal treatment.
