PM Shehbaz highlights downward trend in polio cases
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the downward trend in polio cases in February 2025 is a proof of the effectiveness of the anti-polio campaign across the country, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif while addressing a meeting in Islamabad on Wednesday regarding eradication of polio said that they were committed to complete eradication of the polio.
Shehbaz Sharif said the gradual reduction in polio cases was possible thanks to the tireless work of the administrations of all the provinces.
The complete eradication of polio from the country will be possible only with the cooperation of the federation and the provinces, Prime Minister said.
Prime Minister appreciated the cooperation of security forces during the polio campaign.
Prime Minister instructed to digitize all polio data and conduct strict monitoring.
In the meeting, the Prime Minister was briefed about the progress of the anti-polio campaign so far.
It was briefed that the anti-polio campaign is continuing in all provinces with full vigor and 42.5 million children were administered polio drops in the February 2025 campaign.
About 90 percent of the child population in the polio-affected districts of the country was administered polio drops in the February 2025 campaign.
Six polio cases have been reported since the beginning of the year 2025.
Since the start of the February 2025 anti-polio campaign, there has been a clear decrease in polio cases in the polio-affected districts especially Balochistan, Sindh and southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In the first 6 months of this year, three polio campaigns were part of the plan, out of which the first campaign was held in February, while the other two will be held in the months of April and May.
All aspects of the polio campaign are being continuously monitored through the IT dashboard.
The meeting was attended by Minister of State Dr. Mukhtar Bharat, Senator Ayesha Raza Farooq and senior officers of the concerned institutions.
